Bear Ghost, Chad Wilson Bailey, and More Deliver Raucous New Songs – Phoenix New Times

Bear Ghost – “Necromancin’ Dancin'”
I have little doubt in my mind that one of my favorite albums of next year is going to be Blasterpiece, the first full-length record by Bear Ghost. This year, they quickly became one of my favorite bands to catch live, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to their debut EP. I was hoping the album would be released this year, but at the very least, they have released the manic single “Necromancin’ Dancin'” while they put the finishing touches on the album. This song is everything I love about Bear Ghost in just under four minutes. It is steeped deeply in the best that prog rock offers, all at a breakneck punked-up pace, with a theatrical presentation that makes the band sound damn near possessed. I suppose that’s an appropriate delivery in consideration of the title and the lyrical topic. I have to say that it was pointed out to me recently that the Phoenix music scene was missing a sense of “fun,” and I absolutely understand that perception. That in mind, I have to say that if you’re looking for fun, Bear Ghost is it, without a shadow of a doubt. I was late to the party on their first EP, but after catching their live shows and indulging in this song repeatedly, I feel I arrived just in time. They are top-notch in everything they do, and it’s nearly impossible to bear the anticipation building for the release of Blasterpiece early next year.

10 Can’t-Miss Bands at Apache Lake Music Festival – Phoenix New Times

Bear Ghost is having a really latter half of 2015: They dropped a record, they opened for Mega Ran at Crescent Ballroom for his album release, and now they will be taking a nice evening slot at on the inside stage at ALMF. Bear Ghost has a ton of energy, and they get super-loud because that’s how rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to be played. They’re another act that has been impressing scenesters, but they also posses the look and sound a band that can take a step out of the scene and play for regular Phoenicians at city-sponsored events. The Bear Ghost boys also have a close relationship with Captain Squeegee frontman and trumpeter Danny Torgersen, so a collaboration is definitely on the table.

5 Freshly Released Local Songs You Should Hear – Phoenix New Times

“DOTAB,” Bear Ghost

Bear Ghost’s music will make you feel like you’re at a demented carnival, with sideshow melodies as the backdrops for elaborately silly storytelling. “I tried, but I never really got around to treating you like the queen you think you are,” sings the band, “cause I didn’t think you were worth it,” in their single “DOTAB,” which sounds more kick-your-feet-up-and-dance than melodramatic. The single is off their new five-song EP, Your Parents Are Only Marginally Disappointed in Your Musical Taste, produced locally by Jeremy Parker.

“Bear Ghost is an exhilarating experience that will leave you questioning your life’s direction and/or making your leg muscles twitch in rhythm to our slick, slimy grooves,” says vocalist/guitarist Thomas Knight. “Don’t be frightened — our band is not made up of live bears, dead bears or ghosts. However, we do not claim responsibility should our music summon any of the previously mentioned. Bear ghost is about mixing music, life, fun and you all into a spiraling wave of kick-ass.” Like how they describe their band, the music will often leave you in hysterics.
